I found this in Cecil Sharp House in a book from 1756 called Rutherford’s Country Dances, so it’s probably supposed to be played in the English style but to me it felt more like an Irish air. With a title like that I wondered how it would work, so that’s how all this started. There’s a fantastic story about a Robert FitzGerald, definitely a rake; he owned some land around Adare in Ireland back in 1380. He wasn’t a nobleman so when he killed a knight in a duel he had to do a runner to Scotland, taking the name Adare after his old lands. He became a bounty hunter for the King of Scotland and went after a pirate by the name of Currie, winning himself the keys to Dunskey castle by presenting Currie’s severed head at court - the castle is now in ruins, but to this day the arms of Adare feature that severed head.
